Concept of Operations for the Web Interface Management System
1. Scope
1.1 Identification
The system we are developing is to support the system architecture staff to document the internal and external interfaces in the “La BAMBA” Project for ACME Aerospace.
1.2 Document Overview
This document’s intended audience is the Web Interface Management System (WIMS) Development staff and IMS users. This concept of operations document is intended to be used as a first step in defining the way that the WIMS will look and feel. Our intent is to use this document to communicate with ourselves and the architects on the “La Bamba” project of their need to capture and document system interfaces. In addition, we intend to communicate how the system shall operate to fulfill those needs.
1.3 System Overview
The Web Interface Management System (IMS) is a web-based application that will allow systems architects to define and manage the system interface requirements for the “La Bamba” System. The WIMS application will consist of an Internet Browser, an application server and a database server. The application is required to support concurrent remote users located at several geographically dispersed facilities. The purpose of the project is to construct an application that will capture and manage the system interface definitions/descriptions.

3 Current System or Situation
3.1 Background, Objectives, and Scope
Current interface requirements are documented manually using and XCEL spreadsheet on the users desktop. Our goal is to upgrade all users to the IMS system in order to enable collaborative, remote development of the “La Bamba” interface requirements.
4 Justification for and nature of changes
4.1 Justification for change
The current system does not support the virtual team concept we have adopted on the “La BAMBA” project. Anytime interfaces are defined the interface definitions are stored locally on the user’s local machine. The use of the current approach leads to data duplication and out of synch information. Internet access to the data from the remote sites is not feasible.
4.2 Description of needed changes
Store all the interface definitions in a data store that is accessible using an Internet Browser by the WIMS users. Manage the data store to ensure the data is not lost or destroyed accidentally.
4.3 Priorities Among the Changes
Capture the interface definitions in the WIMS system through the use of an Internet Browser (IE or Netscape). The data store will contain all the interface definitions captured in the input process. Allow the WIMS users to query the data store to retrieve information about the required interface.
